Augusta, Maine -- The Maine Development Foundation has recently announced the new participants of the 2002-2003 LEADERSHIP MAINE program. After receiving a nomination from the House Majority Whip, Rep. Bill Norbert, Susan Hawes was selected based on her:
Personal concern about the future economic health and quality of life of Maine and a commitment to take actions which shape that future
Demonstrated capacity to lead at the statewide level
A record of accomplishment within an organization and community endeavors
LEADERSHIP MAINE is a program of the Maine Development Foundation. The Maine Development Foundation champions sustainable, long-term economic growth for Maine. The foundation is a catalyst for new ideas and provides common ground for solving problems and advancing ideas. Class members meet monthly in different locations throughout the state. Their yearlong commitment will officially begin with a 3-day opening retreat at Outward Bound in September, 2002.
LEADERSHIP MAINE is an educational program committed to building a broader pool of statewide leaders with the skills, knowledge, and networks to shape the future of Maine. The program features topics related to the economy such as entrepreneurship, healthy natural resources, vital communities, education, human services, and efficient government.
This year's class was selected in a competitive application process. Participants in this prestigious program include representatives from business, government, education, and non-profit organizations. This is the tenth class of the program; alumni include: Governor Angus S. King, Jr.; G. Steven Rowe, Speaker of the House, Maine's House of Representatives; Brad Hunter, Chairman & CEO of Fleet Bank of Maine; Nancy Hensel, President, University of Maine at Presque Isle; John Welsh, President of Rumford Community Hospital; and Steve Schley, President of Pingree Associates.
